The beautifully finished Lancasters development

Case study of the Lancasters project

Take a look at the Precision Timber Handrails case study of the recently completed Lancasters project: - A £500m development of a 19th century building situated in Hyde Park, London.

We are extremely proud and pleased with the impressive results we achieved yet again and the case study is well worth a look.

It features stunning images of the completed development as well as some astonishing facts about the work that PTH carried out.

PTH manager named industry rising star

Clive Durose employee Kenny Macfarlane has been recognised as rising star of construction related industries after beating nominees from various industries around the U.K.

Kenny, who runs a speciality service division of Clive Durose wood turners – Precision Timber Handrails received the award after judges recognised his outstanding contribution to the success of PTH.

After Kenny received the prestigious accolade, a spokesperson from construction news said “At only 24 Kenny has made a significant contribution to the growth and management of a business unit for CDW and the judges were convinced he will rise quickly in the industry.”

PTH shortlisted for major construction award

Precision Timber Handrails manager Kenny Macfarlane has been shortlisted for the "rising star of the year" in the Construction News Awards - a category which recognises rising talent in the construction industry. Kenny has been responsible for spearheading the bespoke handrail service at Clive Durose and has driven PTH to the forefront of the market with major residential and commercial projects. Nick Edwards, editor of Construction News said "Our robust judging and a record number of entries makes being a CN Awards finalist a real achievement - it's the best shortlist to be on in this industry."

PTH handrail creates distinctive centre piece at new £5.4m centre of excellence

Precision Timber Handrails have manufactured over 200 linear metres of elliptical oak handrail and capping for the main gallery in the stunning new building. The unique curved handrail is angled and flows around three main podiums.
We were able to guarantee accuracy by digitally measuring all of the walls whilst the site was still in construction phase, which gave us a CAD template that was accurate to within 100 microns. From this, we were able to advise the fitting team of the exact joint positions, saving time, cost and risk during installation.
The project, managed by Bardsley Construction, is described by Clive Durose as “a feather in our cap”, and once again proves our vast in-house manufacturing and design capabilities.

PTH set to break into international marketplace

Clive Durose are looking to expand on an international level with PTH, and recently exhibited in Dubai.

The exclusive ‘Showcase’ exhibition was arranged through the British Chamber of Commerce, and was designed for companies who have their sights set on breaking international boundaries in the interior design market. The guest list included hundreds of architects, interior designers and hotel specifiers, and gave manager Kenny Macfarlane an opportunity to present our expanding portfolio to clients based in the UAE.

According to Kenny, “The positive feedback of the show gives us great confidence in breaking into new markets, the response was very exciting. We are looking forward to working on ground-breaking projects throughout the UAE.”

Awards triumph for PTH manager

Congratulations to Kenny Macfarlane, who recently won the prestigious TTJ Career Development Award. The award recognises continual training and development whilst working in the timber industry. Kenny was presented the award by Karen Brady in front of 400 guests at the ceremony last month. The award highlights the commitment and dedication that Clive Durose has to staff development.

A feature on the TTJ website read,

"According to TTJ editor Mike Jeffree, all the Awards categories were highly competitive, but perhaps the most closely contested was Career Development, sponsored by SCA. Here the under-25 winner was Kenny Macfarlane of Clive Durose Woodturners Ltd."

Post Graduate in Industrial Design, Kenny Macfarlane has won a place with the company on a KTP placement for two years. KTPs - or Knowledge Transfer Partnerships are collaborative ventures between an industrial and University body.

In conjunction with the University of Staffordshire, Kenny is strengthening the Precision Timber Handrails team with his design and 3D CAD skills. He has also been on extensive Digital Measuring Training. With assistance of Staffordshire University, Kenny is developing several areas of the Precision Timber Handrails business having direct contact with customers and project managers.

KTP's are a significant commitment on the part of all concerned and after a rigorous application process Clive Durose were delighted to get approval of this prestigious scheme. David Cheshire, Professor of Engineering Design at Staffordshire University is supporting the KTP project. As head of the universities Design Engineering department, Professor Cheshire has many years of design and manufacturing experience, using the highest level CAD systems.
