Complex rails made simple.
Precision Timber Handrails have triumphed in the production and installation of a complex stunning handrail. This ebonised handrail for a 24 million pound Highgate mansion was a challenge for Clive and his team.
PTH were asked to produce a handrail on top of over 300 steel balusters in a grand helical staircase. The balusters had already been installed by others but the client wanted to conceal the large brackets which were permanently fixed to each baluster. The aim was to conceal the brackets within a deep groove and fit infill between each.
An initial site survey was carried out. Recommendations were made to the Architect and Interior Designer to adjust the steel work slightly. This improved the overall quality of the installation and was essential to help produce a smooth flow and transition around the whole of the staircase. It also gave the client the end result they had imagined. This is typical of the commitment that PTH have to making perfect bespoke handrails. They leave nothing to chance and ensure that the customer gets the best possible professional advice.
Going that extra mile is part of the service that Precision Timber Handrails provide. They have the benefit of 30 years experience. The complimentary skills of CAD technicians and time served craftsmen are frequently called upon to work on prestigious projects in some of the world’s finest properties.
PTH installed the handrail using their own recognised fixing system. Joints were created in the workshop on precision CNC machines. There was no need to cut difficult joints on site. Installation time was minimised. Cutting and fitting individual infill strips was a tedious task that skilled installers took in their stride. They overcame the uneven heights of the metal brackets which were now fixed into the hand rail groove. All this complexity and unevenness was cleverly concealed within the finished rail.
To complete this grand statement of craftsmanship, their skilled polishers ebonised the hardwood handrail with a high build gloss lacquer to match furnishings within the property. The manufacturing, installation and finishing expertise of Precision Timber Handrails is unsurpassed.
Clive Durose has managed to combine traditional woodworking skills with the most sophisticated measuring and CNC production technology. Upon completion Clive commented “This was a very demanding project. It required some unique solutions to achieve the client’s brief. The staircase now looks stunning”.
It would have been extremely difficult to achieve this exceptional result without the technology used. Having said that, there are no substitutes for many years of experience and the highly skilled woodworkers that Clive Durose employs in his PTH team. Clive went on to say “It is a credit to the whole PTH team. We are all immensely proud of the end result”.
A great outcome - Client, Interior Designer, Architect and PTH team all happy.
The Client is happy, the Architect is happy and I'm happy. Well done Clive, I won't hesitate to use you again for similar projects

Project: Oak spiral ergonomic handrail for a bespoke staircase.
This high spec bespoke spiral staircase required a specialist handrail to match. The client undertook a vigorous search to find the right company to match the level of craftsmanship of the whole staircase.
Having designed the staircase, this client required a specialist company to create a high quality spiral handrail. On visiting the PTH design offices and meeting the team, they were delighted by the level of expertise as well as enthusiasm for the project. An added bonus of their visit was their discovery of the id modern stairparts safe-grip handrail and flo spindles by Clive Durose which added an extra dimension to the staircase.
It's clear that Clive has assembled a committed and talented team capable of producing components that reflect these qualities in abundance.

High spec residential developments like this require attention to detail and effective contract management to succeed.
From our digital survey, we were able to advise the client of various design options, show life like renders of the finished handrail and produce drawings to match. The handrail, made up of over 40 bespoke components was manufactured with our specialist CNC equipment, then was fully assembled, installed and ebonised on site by the PTH fitting team; matching the stunning interior of the house.
The pro active and professional approach applied by all members of the team made the project run smoothly and efficiently. We would have no hesitation in recommending them to anybody looking for a bespoke timber handrail.

Project: Wreathing inner handrail through 4 floors
This exciting refurbishment was done to an extremely high specification in Chelsea.
Once again, PTH demonstrates how valuable a digital survey can be when on trying to fit to metal balustrade. The handrail section, designed for Albyns of London, was traditional in shape. We were able to keep the classic aesthetic of the handrail whilst fitting exactly to the metalwork in place, meaning reduced fitting time and a more efficient installation method.
“The handrail went together very easily”

Project: Twin spiral staircases for a luxury country spa resort in rural Essex
We were able to survey the two staircases at a very early stage, allowing us to work alongside the client to achieve tight deadlines, and create two outstanding flights which suit the contemporary feel of the new building.
Each flight comprised of around 8 metres of spiral capping and handrail in American White Oak, and was fitted by our highly skilled installation team.
The client is very happy with the handrail, so many thanks.

Project: Ebonised white Oak handrail for this five star residential home in Wickham.
PTH manufactured this bespoke American white oak handrail for a curving staircase at a residential home in the North East. Working from our survey data, we were able to minimise fitting time on site by producing tailor made parts to fit the metal balustrade.
I was very impressed with how you carried out your survey of the staircase to produce the oak handrail to fit our helical staircase with such precision and high quality.

Project: A new oak staircase was produced for a private country home near Bath, which required a bespoke spiral handrail onto a landing gallery space.
PKR Joinery built and installed the staircase, and we were able to work closely alongside them to produce a spiralling American oak handrail which wreathed down the flight and into a volute bun - meeting the needs of the client, joiners and the architect.
We were very happy with the service, and the product was of high quality which fitted together perfectly with the PTH fixing system.

Project: Elliptical oak handrail and capping designed for the main gallery of Liverpool Hope University's new £5.4m centre of excellence
There was over 100 linear metres of bespoke curved handrail and capping produced to make up the distinctive centre piece of the new centre. We were able to guarantee accuracy by digitally measuring all of the walls, and pre jointing all of the pieces to reduce time spent fitting on site.
The handrail fitted together brilliantly, and looks great.

Project: A new residential development in Virginia Waters, finished throughout to the highest standards. A custom made oak handrail was required to run around the outside of the stair, and wreath onto a small section of landing balustrade.
The contract required total precision. Using our digital surveying equipment, we were able to measure the existing balustrade and the full geometry of the flight. Our dedicated installation team installed and polished the handrail to match the existing handrail, to the delight of the homeowner.
Thank you, excellent job. Please pass on our thanks to your staff.
